I am really keen on seeing how the Google fiber network project in KS works out. The residents are very lucky to have been chosen. I think it could be the start of something big.

I think it’s very hard to predict. It took years to get to the broadband rates we have today. The cable and telco’s spent a lot of money upgrading their infrastructure to do that. But we were all willing to pay for the the service to get off of dial-up.
Will they be willing to invest another large sum to deliver gigibit to the home? What is their incentive? How many people will pay a premium above current broadband fees for something that fast? Certainly some will, but many won’t (especially given the current economy). Will enough people be willing to pay a premium to justify the costs?December 16th, 2011 at 6:08 am -
