Sites worth viewing

I have been trying to think of a ongoing theme or something to do on a specific day of the week, but haven’t really come up with something I really like.  I am however leaning towards something like this – Cool Sites I ran across this week, or Cool Videos, etc.  So maybe a Site – Video you might not know about.

This would be different than the Technorati or Diggs of the world because they would have a sole voter – me ;)

Instead of seeing what got publisized the most, you would see random websites that I ran across and actually stayed at long enough to read some articles, maybe post a comment, etc.  So the sites would be valuable because of their content not because they had one good post one day that they shoved to Digg, and not because “everyone else” is seeing it.

I came across the site I am recommending today by doing some searches in Google to find out where a couple of my sites were landing in various search results.  I was pleasantly surprised to see the two I was looking for come up higher than I thought they would.  For instance a search for “How to CafePress” resulted in my From Pink Slip website coming up on the first page.  NICE!  Of course now that we are on to Zazzle, I would like it to rank for “Learn How to Zazzle“.  Of course that will involve waiting until some point in the future after I already have content related to that subject posted.

TShirt Entrepreneur was a site I ran across while doing the searches for Learn How to CafePress.  He seems to be quite upset about the same CafePress changes that I wrote about in several of my blogs, as he should be.  Through reading his posts, he was actually making a living out of creating designs and marketing them.  He is several orders of magnitude ahead of where my shop is.  With the recent changes however his sales commissions could be brought down significantly.  He has talked with the CafePress folks, and after talking to deaf ears has started to change course in his business.  This is the moral of the story here – faced with changes beyond his control, he has reacted already and is rebuilding elsewhere.  He could just as easily tried to fight, or just sat around and complained, but he got up, moved on, and will be better off in the short & long term for it.  So if you haven’t checked out his site, or ever run across his Zazzle shop, I have placed the links to make it easy for you.  You can visit his Zazzle shop here.

Speaking of how TShirt Entrepreneur is handling the changes, I just read Seth Godin’s latest post on his blog and it is related to that very subject – how some business decisions are dependent on external forces.

I did go through an update all of my sites that have tracking stats on them this week.  Apparently I hadn’t updated those in a while.  Of course it didn’t change the $0 sales and 45+ hours of work each month, but atleast they are current again.  I am really hopeful my Click Into Action site makes some sales as its traffic has increased signifcantly since last month.

Seen any cool sites that I should check out?  I have no quams (sp?) about covering a site if I think it is a good one and provides good content.  let me know.

Seems that TShirt Entrepreneur hasn’t blogged in a long time, sad to see whenever that happens :(

    Till then,

Wow. That one is great. Somebody put alot of work into that. The sarcasm is pretty thick not to notice though. I guess if you don’t read beyond the first few words, but I HAD to look at the whole site….too perfect!

Yeah, I saw that the other day when I went out there. Looks like he stopped shortly after I did. Which is a bummer as I liked to read his take on things.

    Jean,
Time commitments essentially. I have a couple other projects that I am working on. The 5 blogs that I was writing was initially a test to see what would happen if… type of thing. I hope to get back to them someday, but for now don’t have the time to continue the daily updating.

This site might actually be updating randomly though as I have the time.

What graphic design related sites are worth seeing in Europe?
I’m a graphic designer and I’m going to be travelling around Europe shortly and want to visit some design (particularly graphic) sites that europe has to offer (in addition to any touristy stuff). Any recommendations as to were to go, not just graphic design but touristy stuff too I guess.
