Online Opportunities

Looking for something to do this weekend.  Prefer that it make money after all the cash you blew through on gas and burgers last weekend?  If you are an artistic type, you can make money online by offering logos to people.  That’s right, put your artistic talents to work and you could earn some money.

But Johnny, how do I find people who want their logo’s built?  Wouldn’t that be a huge project to market myself as a logo builder?  What if they don’t like my logo?

Whoa, there!  Relax, I will give you several options.  I read about a new website that just launched by reading Zac Johnson’s site.  (update: His site is back up and I have linked to the post he had made. )

First, there is 99designs.com - I have known about this one for a while now.  People who want their logo’s built start a “contest” on the site, and anyone who is registered can submit logo’s for that company.  Each contest has a description of what the company is about, likes, dislikes, what they are looking for, what the logo should convey, etc.   I went out there just a couple minutes ago to make sure it still existed, and yesiree bob, it does.  I looked at the first contest available and took a gander at the submissions that were already done.  Go ahead, take a look.  Is this something that you can do?  I would say 70% of the designs on there are within the reach of most folks who have good computer skills.  Do these take time to put together?  YES.  The types of submissions that are on most of these contest certainly take time to get just right, but if you enjoy doing these things to begin with, it should be a fun project for the weekend.  Also, once you have one design built, you can swap some of the colors around and submit another.

The second (the one I heard about on Zac’s site) is LogoMyWay.com – Same type of premise here – companies start a contest and pick from the designs submitted.  As this site is just starting, there are several benefits.  First, less competition – there are fewer folks who know about it and therefore fewer designers to go up against.  Second, if you start right away and win some of the first contests, you can become one of the top designers in no time.  I don’t know if they track that type of thing, but the more your name gets out there, the more others will recognize your work.  As another bonus, one of the first contests going on now is building a logo for John Chow.  YES, the John Chow.  His current logo looks very professional, so I am not sure why he wants to change it, but bottom line is that he does.  So you can submit designs and if he picks yours, your work could be in front of thousands of users everday – how do you like them apples?  Of course that contest is also going to be one of the more heavily submitted ones, but your designs rock remember?

I am sure there are other build my logo type sites out there, do you know of any I missed?  Have you ever submitted to any of these?

With so many people out of work right now, a lot of them are turning to generate income. I just read an article about how people are making money at home and generating more income than they did at their old jobs.
